SANFORD - For the 19th consecutive year Seminole County has received the highest national award for excellence in Financial Reporting. It is one of 443 counties in the United States, and 33 in Florida, so honored.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, was presented to the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for the County's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2000.

Robert L. Wilson, Clerk's director of county finance also received top honors from the Finance Officers Association. Mr. Wilson received the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement. This marks his 21st consecutive year of receiving the individual achievement award for his work on the CAFR.

“I am obviously pleased with the streak and extremely proud of my staff. Their effort and hard work are the reasons why we continue to receive this prestigious award,” said Seminole County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Maryanne Morse. “Nineteen consecutive years is a great accomplishment and one we don't plan on stopping there. We will continue to strive for excellence so Seminole County citizens continue to benefit.”

Included in the annual financial report are statements of revenues and expenditures, balance sheets and an independent audit opinion of all funds managed by county government, including the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk of the Court, the Property Appraiser, the Tax Collector, the Sheriff and the Supervisor of Elections. As Clerk of the Circuit Court, Mrs. Morse serves as treasurer and recorder for Seminole County.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (Certificate Program) was established by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) in 1945. They are a non-profit association serving 12,625 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada.
